Raised in the United States of America has blessings not experienced everywhere, yet blessings gained from a godly mother tops any experiences I could ever have, other than the joy of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. I would not be the person I am without Jesus Christ and my mother. She, as any parent, or child, can be trying, yet I would not want life without her. Before my birth, God set His redemptive plan in motion. My mother's family raised her after their tradition, Roman Catholic, yet in her experience she did not see truth in her family’s religion and left the Catholic church after leaving home. She said priests she met could not give her answers about God she desperately desired. Therefore I never heard of church before I my eighth birthday. Although later in life my aunt and uncle said they took me to church, but I was too young to recall, and they say I loved my Bible and wanted to attend church everyday [Ps 119:130]! Then life changed, my mother received the gift of salvation by our gracious loving God [Eph 2:5]. We attended church whenever the door was open. I was eight or nine when the fear of hell fell on me [Matt 10:18], I raced down the aisle to escape, however fear, even good fear of a dreadful place does not save souls! Salvation is a gift God gives and Him alone [John 1:12-13]. He opened my eyes for the need of salvation in high school doing a Bible study through 1John with my mother. She was my walking Bible and whenever I needed an answer about God, she quoted a verse from God’s love letter to mankind: the Holy Scripture, the Bible. Wisely she knew I needed to know the Bible myself and studied with me, teaching me God’s Word. One of those studies opened my eyes - I was not a Christian, I never surrendered my life to Christ’s Lordship [Rom 10:9-10], I still sat in the captain’s chair of my life. At 17 God redeemed my soul and my life began to change [Rom 12:2]. Change is evidence of a transformed life! Faith without a changed life is merely intellectual knowledge about God, the demons have that and tremble [Jas 2:19]. I soon heard God’s call into ministry, spoke with my pastor and started attending Bible college for ministry preparation, yet that is when I also realized leaders and their misunderstanding of God’s plan. They focused on good things, but not the right things; they were so focused on growing the church, they neglected their families [1Cor 7:32-34] and I saw the byproduct, it was not good. They were so bent on doing work for God they forgot God’s greatest work: their families! This, and my own desire for wealth, so I would not need to fully depend on God for money, distracted me from God’s plan: I made plans of my own [Prov 16:9]. Those plans crumbled and God taught me, I did not need to be as other leaders, rather I could seek God’s ways doing His will letting Him grow the church or ministry, not me [1Cor 3:6]. It has been many years since high school and college and my salvation experience, but I am committed now more than ever to live life God’s way letting chips fall where they may. God wants people seeking Him, as He is, not as we image Him and this is the key message I pass whenever and however I am given opportunity. Praise God He is patient! I look forward to see what doors God opens to share His message to the world, both unbelievers needing salvation and Christians needing to return to our God!
